Born the same year of the Great Recession.
Another born at the start, of the Great Depression.
Far from one another.
She a mother of a mother,
I a daughter of a daughter.
The two crossed paths, in the past.
The stock market, it collapsed.
Stood tall, then it relapsed, now the two contrast.
Each have their own past of their craft.
One floating for 10 years, upon a raft.
But before, 86 years heightened on a staff.
Looking now, how far I am from that raft.
I can’t come to comprehend, time is on adrift.
That I, myself actually exist.
How do I know, that we humanity won't crash like the stock market did?
Or relapse, and keep its presence.
Their essence scares.
I have fears too.
That I too, lonely float upon a raft.
That 10 years, will feel like 10 seconds passed.
That 86, is my heightened staff.
Recession stress, depression rest.
Children of an economic lesson.
Earth, to heaven.
Born to the years of economic oppression.
I pray we understood this lesson.
But to be honest, I don’t think we all paid attention.
Body and soul adrift.
This chaotic life is a gift.
Explanation
Recession to Depression written because I was born during the years of the 2008 Recession and my great grandmother was born during the years of the Great Depression. Used to commemorate her life, but also to contrast the two eras and how they were similar in a way. How history repeats itself and that we should cherish our life, good and bad. But we as a community should learn from our mistakes, small or big. Because 10 years, can definitely feel like 10 seconds passed.
